Week 02 - Plot mapping

What did we learn from seeing people filling in the plot map?
The plot map

An embodied survey that can identify some of the reasons behind lack of engagement during school classes specified towards this minor
Test cut in 8 mm mpf with different settings. This thickness is the limit of the laser cutter and even with the best
Test of engraving: When cutting almost through paper it creates lamellas
Test cut with 400 g/m2 paper. Makes the world in difference!
possible settings the cut is rough and quite some material is burned away
Engraving gone wrong. Be careful about the placement in addition to the power of the laser
Tip: Use an eraser to remove burned dust on paper/non fixed surfaces
85 brass nails later...
1) People don't read the manual. They fill in the plot map like most people assemble Ikea furniture. That means they only seek for professional advice when they have already fucked up. Solution: BIGGER and more visible manual so that YOU CAN'T IGNORE IT!

2) Make the units VERY clear on the different scales so that people understand them in the same way and the can't be misinterpret.

3) People are butter-fingered. Make nails and screws twice the size so that all the "I-got-two-left-hands-people" also are capable of filling it in
1) It's very different wheter the respondents were used to speak up in front of groups of people

2) However, on this minor they are fairly comfortable about speaking up in in class

3) The respondents find the subjects taught in class very relevant for the actual making

4) The respondents see themselves as being on very different language levels in proportion to how much of the teaching they understand

5) A lot of the respondents answered that they were really shy which makes us as the creators wonder if they did actually understand the scale in the intented way. VERY visible units upon the scale could have prevented this.

6) The respondents answered that they get easily distracted during class. One also added that the class discussions were too long.

7) In generel the respondents think of themselves as lacking professional knowledge concerning making on this minor
What did we learn from looking at the results
Collaborative Learning
Working with Elisa was quite a good match. My impulsiveness together with her calmness and a shared idea about that collaborating is two persons doing most things together seemed to be a good fit. We also both want to do things as close to the original idea as possible. This can sometimes delay the process, where a more pragmatic view upon making could make things happen a little faster.
