Zine // Design & Research Skills
Do I actually learn something?// Maker Skills & Attitude
Am I getting any wiser?// Collaborative Learning
The first zine of the semester was about alienation and distance. The form is rough collage with text added afterwards.

Something good:
In generel I'm much into simplicity and succeeded in doing so here still sending a clear message visually.

Something Bad:
Things can also be TOO explicit. I like a message to be subtle and not "RIGHT IN YOUR FACE" as this might tend to be.
The short answer is yes. Luckily.

For the future I'll be much aware of the direction of the grains in the plywood when laser cutting. Because in opposition to my test capybara, I turned the plate 90 degress for the one seen above. When I later burned it and used coarse sandpaper to create the fur texture, I ended up damaging the wood more than creating the actual texture since I stroke it against the grains. Just don't.

I also learned that it is possible to laser cut 2 cm foam. But since the laser can't focus on such thick materials, it melts a lot of the material making the bottom smaller than the otherwise sharp top.
Collaborating is for me about contribution. Though I haven't done much digital design compared to most of the others, I did have a few brief moments where I could actually be usefull e.g. showing Melissa about changing the hight of the base in the laser cutter or discussing 'alienation' with Katharina. And that might be my general strengh; to question everything, since I have no rutines to ristrict me.
